Like previous grants rounds, Round 8 will be a celebration of the Ethereum community, the success of our current and past grantees, and the donors contributing to public goods to support to the future of Web3. During each quarterly round our community rewards the hard work and contributions others have made to this open ecosystem, while also funding the projects we believe will make the largest impact in the future. But during all the commotion of fundraising, donating, and shilling, we sometimes lose site of what we're all here to do: Build. Consequently, going forward we plan to synergize every Gitcoin Grants round with an accompanying hackathon!
This hackathon, like all of the work we’ve done around grants, will be all about growing the Ethereum & Web3 ecosystems. The combined event is a chance to rally the community not just around funding projects they care about, but to help build them as well.
The GR8 Hackathon is special and unique for a few reasons:
We’d like to invite you to join us to build the future of Web3, learn from online workshops, open new grants, and if you can, help fund great projects that are contributing to public goods.
All workshops and community sessions will be hosted on the Hackathon Airmeet - register now!
If you're a new or returning hacker, but haven't ventured out to the Grants side of the Gitcoin platform, you're in for a treat! Gitcoin Grants is an experiment where people can fund their open source projects for public benefit with QF (Quadratic Funding) matching contributions from Gitcoin’s QF Fund, sponsored by donors in the Ethereum ecosystem. By using QF, even a $1 donation to a project you support can earn them a match of 10-100x that amount.
Grants round 7 saw $274,830 in contributions and $450,000 in matched funds distributed across 857 projects (check out Vitalik's Round 7 Retro to learn more about the previous round). If you'd like to learn more, open your own grant, or donate, visit the grants about page and wiki to learn more!
