A lot of the smart contract calls made by [ContractProvider](https://github.com/plasma-group/plasma-core/blob/master/src/services/contract/http-provider.js) use relatively high gas estimates. For example, `depositETH()` uses an estimate of 6,000,000 (!) gas:
Obviously this doesn't cost 6,000,000 gas, but native web3 gas estimation has been unreliable and sometimes underestimated, causing the method to fail. We decided it was better for UX to just overestimate instead.
It'd be great if someone could submit a bunch of deposits and exits to figure out the average gas usage. That way we can add better estimates. Check out our [guide on using `plasma-node`](https://github.com/plasma-group/plasma-node/blob/master/README.md) in order to start making transactions!
