Gitcoin Core's mission is to grow & sustain Open Source; therefore, OSS projects are like water to plants: indispensable, they are more than welcome to use Gitcoin. OSS projects can take advantage of Gitcoin's platform to attract potential contributors (developers, programmers, designers, packagers, translators, etc) to help with specific project tasks, issues, features, or by encouraging the use, maintenance, or integration of existing Open Source Technologies or the creation of new ones, by using Gitcoin products like: Bounties, Hackathons, Grants, etc.


Bounties

Offer a great way to attract potential project contributors by incentivizing their efforts while contributing to a OSS project.

How to Use Bounties:

  1. Create Issue: Create an issue on Github that you want to be solve.

  2. Fund Issue: Fund the issue on Gitcoin by following the instructions on the fund issue form.

  3. Start Work: An interested contributor will click on the bounty's "Start Work" button, and will be ask to complete a short express interest form; where, depending on the permissions chosen while creating the bounty (Permissionless/Approval Required), you will then receive an email with a "Work Started" or "Request to Work" notice; if the bounty was created with Approval Required permissions, approve the request via the email notification.

  4. Review Work: Once the contributor(s) has finished working with the issue presented on the bounty, he will then submit a pull request for review.

  5. Paying the Bounty: Depending on the type of project that was chosen when creating the bounty (Traditional, Contest, Cooperative), payment can be made to one contributor or to multiple contributors.

  6. Accept Submission: Once completed use the "accept submission" button on the issue details page to release the funds, so the contributor(s) may receive them.

Hackathons

Offer a tournament like environment which can be another great away not only to attract potential project contributors but to encourage the use of existing Open Source Technologies or the creation of new ones, as well.

How to Use Hackathons:

OSS projects can be part of Gitcoin Hackathons by becoming hackathon sponsors. Go to Hackathons Contact and follow the instructions presented there to become the next Gitcoin Hackathon sponsor.


Grants

Offer a great way for OSS projects to be funded by the supporters of the open source ecosystem with a recurring funding subscription.

How to Use Grants:

OSS projects can start using Gitcoin Grants by creating a new grant by following the instructions on the create new grant form

Kudos

Offer a great way for economically challenged OSS projects to be able to show appreciation and build relationships to with it's contributors in a fun, innovative, and economical way. They are like badges of appreciation signifying that a great job was done.

How to Use Kudos:

OSS projects can start using Kudos by directly buying them with ETH from the Kudos Marketplace, by getting them as a reward by completing Gitcoin Quests, or by receiving them from another Gitcoin user. Once you have a Kudos you can send it as a tip to any project contributor you wish to acknowledge. Additionally, they can be used in conjunction with Gitcoin bounties, as well.
