We’re halfway through 2020 and we’ve already achieved so many awesome things, even through the most unexpected times. We’re topping up the 1st half of this year with an important announcement: Polkadot + Kusama will be integrating with Gitcoin!
Gitcoin has always been first and foremost about growing open source, and our involvement in the development of Polkadot’s recent launch brings us closer to our goal of open source communities worldwide, including across chains.
But to build an open source future, we need help from all of you amazing coders, designers, and boundless-doers. If you want to go far, go together.
Our partnership with Polkadot means that you’ll have the opportunity to innovate and build apps, solutions and prototypes in the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems. Throughout the following months, Polkadot will host a series of hackathons aimed at building solutions that make the most of the capabilities of their sharded protocol, and get those features across blockchains, through cross-blockchain transfers of any type of data or asset, not just tokens.
Polkadot is a platform for Web3, developed by the Web3 Foundation and led by co-founders of Ethereum (Gavin Wood), Rust veterans (Robert Habermeier) and distributed knowledge networks experts (Peter Czaban).
Polkadot’s mission is to connect private and consortium chains, public and permissionless networks, oracles, and future technologies in the making. Polkadot facilitates an internet where independent blockchains can exchange information and transactions in a trustless way via the Polkadot relay chain.
Polkadot went live on May 26th, after 3 years of intense development, marking the first phase of their rollout. More than 150 projects are already underway in Polkadot’s network of projectsand the future’s just getting started.
Kusama, a cousin chain of Polkadot, is a “canary network” for Polkadot, an early unaudited release of the code that is available first and holds real economic value. For developers, Kusama is a proving ground for runtime upgrades, on-chain governance, and parachains.
We’re excited to welcome both Kusama and Polkadot into Gitcoin’s open source community.
Great, you won’t have to wait too long for that! While we tighten up the bolts on Polkadot’s upcoming hackathon, make sure to join the Polkadotcommunity, check out their technology stack and documentation and use Townsquare to rally up your team before the hackathon unleashes.
We said earlier that the first half of 2020 was awesome – but the 2nd half is just warming up!
Kudos
