Gitcoin is excited to announce our plans to use Gitcoin Requests to fund open source work during Hacktoberfest! We’re excited to play as small part in the festivities and stand on the shoulders of giants who have done a great deal to celebrate open source software over the years.
For those who don’t know, Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open source software. Here are some statistics from the 2017 celebrations.

We want maintainers / developers to make 100 Gitcoin Requests tagging ‘Hacktoberfest’ in the month, giving us the chance to pay software developers everywhere for contributing to open source and growing the ecosystem!
A Gitcoin Request is a request for funding on a particular Github issue. If you think the solving of this issue would benefit the open source community, put a price tag on it’s completion! Here’s how it can be used during Hacktoberfest.

If you’re a maintainer or a repo owner, we’d love for you to find a high-impact issue which you’d love to have completed in October. We’re confident the open source community will come together to make it happen
Know of a good candidate for a Hacktoberfest bounty? Make a Gitcoin Request! Joseph Schiarizzi and I will be here to help, and the Gitcoin community will work hard to make sure it gets completed.

Additionally, if you’ll be at Github Universe in the middle of Hacktober, give us a shout! We’ll be there alongside other amazing sponsors like Sentry, Digital Ocean, Waffle, and Mozilla. Excited to play a small part.
Let’s grow open source, together.
