There have been multiple Zuzalu Gitcoin rounds:
The Zuzalu Continuous Innovation round (15 Aug 2023 to 29 Aug 2023) focused on tech projects with a few events included that the author managed.
The Q1 tech round and events round (30 Jan to 23 Feb) that Chance managed as a volunteer with separate tech and events tracks.
The post notes that "stewards for the third series of Zuzalu rounds were chosen yesterday."
Process Evolution for Choosing Managers
The author describes three different selection approaches:
- First round: Direct invitation with hourly compensation
- Q1 rounds: Informal outreach to individuals
- Q2 rounds: Self-nomination and voting through a Zuzalu forum, with three stewards chosen per round
The author suggests "people should be able to form parties" and apply together as teams of three to avoid incompatible pairings.
Activities Performed
Round management included announcements, outreach to potential applicants, verification calls, co-hosted writing sessions, and community support during donations.
Donation Challenges
Previous rounds faced significant obstacles with passport stamps and Sybil resistance. Solutions included accepting Zupass holders for full matching and proposing legal name verification via credit card payment to expand access to non-crypto users.
Suggested Criteria
For Tech Rounds:
- Matches Zuzalu mission and values
- Open source
- Fits original Zuzalu topic tracks
- Prioritizes team members from Zuzalu/ZuConnect
- Ethereum ecosystem compatibility
- Relevant to in-person events
For Events Rounds (author's suggestions):
- Minimum 2-week duration
- Topic focused on original Zuzalu tracks
- Core team includes Zuzalu resident or ZuConnect participant
- Includes co-living aspects
- Co-created schedule
- Coworking on meaningful projects
- 50-300 anticipated residents
The author proposes event caps around 150-300 residents, noting "a lot of the magic of the original Zuzalu is that it was close to a Dunbar sized number."
